As stated in the Ministerial Circular of March 31, 2020, “In the event of separation of mother and child, automatic recourse to breast milk substitutes should be avoided. Instead, implement breast pumping to obtain breast milk or use donated human milk. The use of breast milk pumped from a SARS-CoV-2 positive mother for her newborn within a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit must follow specific protocols. In cases of serious maternal infection, the pumping of breast milk may not be carried out based on the general conditions of the mother.”
